Linsay Monroe

“I’ve been a part of the Obesity UK Facebook community for years. It’s the one place I felt like people really understood me.”

Linsay Monroe has been part of the Obesity UK support community for over five years. Through her lived experience, she’s witnessed the challenges of obesity first-hand – including stigma, misinformation, and emotional isolation. But she’s also found strength and community through connecting with others who’ve walked a similar path.

Linsay’s Reflections

When Linsay first joined Obesity UK’s Facebook group, she didn’t know what to expect. What she found was an online space filled with people supporting one another through shared journeys, from weight gain and health complications to surgery, medications, and emotional resilience.

During her ambassador meeting, Linsay reflected on how important it is to speak openly and honestly about obesity. She’s witnessed the damage that judgment and stereotypes can do, especially to those who are already vulnerable. Her goal is to help shift the conversation – from blame and shame to support and understanding.

“We all deserve to be treated like people. Not numbers on a scale. Not assumptions. Just people.”

Linsay’s Advice to Others

“Don’t isolate yourself. Find a space where you feel seen – where your voice matters. That’s what I found here.”

As a Patient Advocate with Obesity UK, Linsay is committed to listening, sharing, and helping others realise they are not alone. Her story – like so many others – is a testament to the power of community and compassion.
